We are in the planning and development stages for a new subdivision at our Westover Drive property in Palatka, Florida. The property will be split into five, .25 acre home-sites for honorably discharged, U.S. Military Veterans and their families. The un-developed property is owned by Putnam Habitat and is situated next to the Edgar Johnson Senior Center for activities, exercising, socializing and access to community resources; a pool is also available close-by that offers swim-aerobics. The Veterans Village will be built in an existing habitat community that borders the property.
A tiny-house plan has been developed for the older, single or coupled veteran. Each villa is 550 square feet, and has handicap accessibility features, including a roll-in shower and wider doors. Each Veteran that is selected will provide 200 sweat equity hours into their home or another Habitat home, if physically able. Each homeowner will pay a mortgage that includes escrow payments for property taxes, insurance and termite bond. Monthly payments are expected not to exceed $300 per month. Putnam Habitat holds the mortgage, and currently services 39 Habitat mortgages in Putnam County from previous builds.
At Habitat for Humanity, we build. We build because we believe that everyone, everywhere, should have a healthy, affordable place to call home. More than building homes, we repair existing homes and mobile homes, we build hope and we build the opportunity for families to help themselves.
