Blitz Builds are a busy six-day effort to build homes from the foundation to the roof, with basic wiring and walls or "dried in". Nine years in a row, students from the University of Wisconsin-Madison College have made the treck down to Putnam County to help our local volunteers to build more than thirty homes for low-income families.
Through the work of Habitat, thousands of low-income families have found new hope in the form of affordable housing. Churches, community groups and others have joined together to successfully tackle a significant social problem―decent housing for all.
Today, Habitat has helped build or repair more than 800,000 houses and served more than 4 million people around the world.
Habitat builds simple houses with the help of "sweat equity" from the homeowner and provides no-interest loans with consturction costs about half of a commerically built home.
Putnam Habitat for Humanity was established in 1991 and serves the residents of Putnam County. We have built 46 homes since inception, and we currently have 42 active mortgages.
